ColdPlay; Releasing Hit Albums Since 2000

Coldplay is a British rock band from London, Britain. Coldplay was formed by Chris Martin (lead vocals) and Jonny Buckland (guitarist) in 1996. Their genres include alternative rock and pop rock. The members with Jonny and Chris are Guy Berryman (bass) and Will Champion (drums).
Coldplay has gained popularity immensely throughout the years with three World Music Awards, four Billboard Music awards and seven Grammy (out of the many nominees). They have sold over 80 million records world wide.
Coldplay's début album, "Parachutes" released in 2000, is one of my favorite albums of theirs. This album contains  more actual instruments unlike their newer albums. I feel that the best song of this album would have to be "Trouble," because of the great duo of the piano and drums. Another I song I would highly suggest checking out would be "Everything's Not Lost." I feel that through out this album, most of the songs contain the same feel of happy coffee shop music.
"A Rush of Blood to the Head," was Coldplay's second album. This album was very successful with having over 15,000,000 copies sold worldwide. Overall, I think this is a pretty good album because it still has almost the same feel as the first album but with a little bit more electronic work to empathize the instruments. I think this worked for them. In their song "Clocks," (great song you have probably heard,) has great piano and guitar that can be soft and loud at the same time. The piano rhythm causes you to nod your head or tap your foot; this is why I think the song is so popular, because its almost interactive. I think this has to be mine absolute favorite album of theirs yet because of how they were able to shine the light on a different instrument(s) each song. Cold palsy's song "In my Place," has great drum beats that set up perfectly for the guitar. Their  song "The Scientist," mainly uses piano and it makes it dramatic in a good way. I would recommend checking out this album.
"Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends," was Coldplay's third album. This album contained "Viva la Vida," (you may have heard it on the radio,) which was the band's first Billboard Hot 100. My Favorite song on this album would have to be "Cemeteries in London." I like this song because it is a little different lyrically and I think the drumbeat and the guitar were catchy. I would check out this album because it has a little to offer everyone.
"Milo Xyloto," was Coldplay's fourth album. This album contained the single, " Paradise." I personally am not a huge fan of this song. I really like the background music but I felt that the lyrics were a little too repetitive. I do really like their song, "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall." I like the mix of acoustic guitar and electric guitar in this song. They were able to fit a lot in this song without it sounding over done.
"Ghost Stories" was Coldplay's most recent album I think that this album has a little too much electronics for me but they don't make it like overpowering, its actually almost peaceful, but still not my cup of tea.

If you like Coldplay, I would encourage you to check out The Script.

American Authors and Imagine Dragons; Alternative music of today

American Authors was a band formed in 2007 with the original name of  "The Blue Pages." American Authors was officially formed in 2011 and hit it big in 2013. Their first big hits were "Best Day of my Life" and "Believer." The band members include Zac Barnett, (lead vocals and guitar) James Adam Shelley, (lead guitar and banjo) Dave Rublin, (bass) and Matt Sanchez (drums).
American Authors can be categorized as indie pop, rock and alternative. Their music contains a lot of banjo and tambourine.  I think people (including myself) like their music because of the creative lyrics like in "Best Day of My Life," it talks about impossible situations we dreamt about as kids. Their song "Believer," another big hit, has a great  drum beat that isn't too loud and with the lyric's rhythm makes it the kind of song that you don't even realize that you're singing along to. These were the biggests hits on the band's debut album.
American Authors latest album "Oh, What a Life," contains many great singles like"Trouble, "Hit It," and "Heart of Stone." This album has the same sound and type of style as the first album with good drum beats and fast rhythmed lyrics making another great album in my opinion.
I was able to attend a concert this summer (Kansas City, Mo., Starlight Theatre) in which American Authors opened for One Republic and The Script. I think it was a great concert. They did very well live and they sounded almost the same as they do on the radio. I loved the concert so much that I plan to attend another concert of theirs in the fall of next year.
Another band I have come to love is Imagine Dragons. Its members include Dan Reynolds, Andrew Tolman, Ben McKee, Daniel Wayne, and Daniel Platzman. They are styled as alternative and rock. You have probably heard some of their songs. Their album "Night Visions" contained the popular singles, "Radioactive," "Demons," and "It's Time." "It's Time," was their first real big hit and a big hit it was. "It's Time" was number two on the weekly Billboard 200 chart. "Radioactive," was the band's second big hit and it became "The biggest rock hit of 2013" by The Rolling Stone.
Imagine Dragons and American Authors are both really similar in music style. If you like one, I would encourage you to check out the other.

Passenger; Singer of Reality

The Band /Passenger. (yes that is how you spell it) was formed in 2003 by Michael David Rosenburg (main singer/songwriter) and his friend, Andrew Philips in Brighton and Hove UK. The rest of the members included Alon Cohen, Tom Mills, Stephen Hoed, and Robin Coward. The band released their début album, "Wicked Man's Rest," in 2007. Philips left the band after the released of this album and the band broke up later in 2009. Rosenberg decide to pursue a solo career as "Passenger."
Passenger released his first album, "Wide Eyes Blinded Love," in 2009. This album had ten songs on it and I love them all but one, "Snowflakes," which I feel is a repetitive song and it is somewhat sad and dull song. Other than that I feel that the album is great. My favorite song in this album is "Caravan," because I like the guitar in it and I felt like it had really great lyrics. Most Passenger songs have really great, deep lyrics and if you listen closely you can see how thought out they were.
The 2nd album Passenger released, "Flight of the Crow," (2010) was even better then the first album. By this time I think Passenger realized that in today's music people like to have a beat to tap their foot to, so he includes a little more drums and other instruments in this album. "Flight of the Crow" had a feature artist for every song but the song "Flight of the Crow." My favorite song of this album is "Shape of Love," (feat. Boy & Bear) because it has that great drum beat (drums are very important to me...) and I feel like this song was fuller that his last album's songs. This song had more sound to it and not just guitar and singing (like the first album), and don't get me wrong I love acoustic and everything but I feel that if you have more instruments then you can do more with your music. There  were many songs on this album that I liked and thought they had great improvement from the already good, first album.
"All the Little Lights," was Passenger's third album and by far my favorite. This album showed a lot of emotion if you listened to the words. The most popular song, "Let Her Go," was on this album, perhaps you've heard it on the radio. My favorite songs on this album would have to be "Life's for the Living," and "Starring at the Stars." "Life's for the Living," talks a lot about the reality of today (most of the album talks about problems of today.) I really love the horns played in this song, they really did a good job on the background music. Both songs "Life's for the Living," and "Starring at the Stars," both have great lyrics, as always. The song " Starring at the Stars," uses great wordplay to express the flaws in today's normal. The use of violins can make the lyrics almost funny in a mocking way and I think it is just great the way it is put together. I would highly encourage you to check this album out.
Passenger's newest album "Whispers," has just recently come out. The song " Coins in a Fountain," has a great use  of violins, bongos, and cymbals. I love how he was able to include all of these instruments without it sounding over done, I feel like he was able to make it work and very well. The song "Whispers," is an absolutely amazing song, I can't even explain how much I love this song. I think the guitar at the end was dramatic and the drums in the middle was a perfect slow rhythm matched with Rosenburg's raised voice that seemed to compliment the rest of the emotion in the musical background. I would recommend that you check this album out or at least this song.

Note: if you like Passenger, you should check out Oh Honey, I saw them in concert with The Fray recently and I know you will be hearing them on the radio soon.

The Script; The Band You Need to Know

For those unfamiliar with The Script, they are a pop rock band for Dublin Ireland. The band was formed by Danny O'Donoghue (lead singer and piano player) and Mark Sheenan (vocals and guitar). Mark and Danny decided to form a band after being dropped by their record company of their previous band, Mytown. They then recruited Glen Power(drums) and formed The Script in 2001.
The Script is a popular band in America, the UK and Ireland. Perhaps you have heard them on the radio. I have been fortunate enough to be able to attend one of their concerts. The Script opened for One Republic and American Author opened for them as well (watch for a future blog post!). They sounded live exactly the same as on the radio; I was impressed.
The Script's début album was released the 8th of August in Ireland and the 11th in the UK by Photogenic Records. This album was number one in sales in the UK for 11 weeks and was the 18th best seller of 2008. The album contained many great, popular, singles including, "Before the Worst," "We Cry," which was their first single and top ten single, "Breakeven," and "The Man Who Can't Be Moved." I love this album because it contains many 'alive' drumbeats. The lyrics are cleverly written and easy to learn; it is sometimes hard to stop yourself from singing along. O'Donoghue's Irish accent is the icing on the cake for the lyrics; it gives the music such a original sound.
The Script's second album, "Science and Faith," was released on September 10th 2010. The album contained the singles, "If You Ever Come Back," "Dead Man Walking," "Nothing," (which was the best song they performed at the concert that I attended) "For the First Time," and others. This album contains so many great singles that I would encourage to just buy the whole album. Same as the first, this album has great drumbeats and catchy lyrics. I love this album because usually over time artists' styles change, sometimes for the best and sometimes for the worst, but I feel that The Script was able to keep their same, great, style.
"#3" was The Script's third album which featured Will.i.am for their most popular single of the album, "Hall of Fame." Other singles of this album include, "Six Degrees of Separation," "If You Could See Me Now," "Good Ol' Days," and others. What I like the most about this album is that they have included many live versions of their old songs like, "Talk You Down" and "Breakeven."
The Script's newest album, "No Sound Without Silence," will be released on September 12th, 2014 (Preorders are available). A few singles have already been released like "Superheroes." I have high expectations for this album and I encourage you to check it out.

If you like The Script, I would encourage you to look up The Fray and Train.
