American Authors was a band formed in 2007 with the original name of "The Blue Pages." American Authors was officially formed in 2011 and hit it big in 2013. Their first big hits were "Best Day of my Life" and "Believer." The band members include Zac Barnett, (lead vocals and guitar) James Adam Shelley, (lead guitar and banjo) Dave Rublin, (bass) and Matt Sanchez (drums).
American Authors can be categorized as indie pop, rock and alternative. Their music contains a lot of banjo and tambourine. I think people (including myself) like their music because of the creative lyrics like in "Best Day of My Life," it talks about impossible situations we dreamt about as kids. Their song "Believer," another big hit, has a great drum beat that isn't too loud and with the lyric's rhythm makes it the kind of song that you don't even realize that you're singing along to. These were the biggests hits on the band's debut album.
American Authors latest album "Oh, What a Life," contains many great singles like"Trouble, "Hit It," and "Heart of Stone." This album has the same sound and type of style as the first album with good drum beats and fast rhythmed lyrics making another great album in my opinion.
I was able to attend a concert this summer (Kansas City, Mo., Starlight Theatre) in which American Authors opened for One Republic and The Script. I think it was a great concert. They did very well live and they sounded almost the same as they do on the radio. I loved the concert so much that I plan to attend another concert of theirs in the fall of next year.
Another band I have come to love is Imagine Dragons. Its members include Dan Reynolds, Andrew Tolman, Ben McKee, Daniel Wayne, and Daniel Platzman. They are styled as alternative and rock. You have probably heard some of their songs. Their album "Night Visions" contained the popular singles, "Radioactive," "Demons," and "It's Time." "It's Time," was their first real big hit and a big hit it was. "It's Time" was number two on the weekly Billboard 200 chart. "Radioactive," was the band's second big hit and it became "The biggest rock hit of 2013" by The Rolling Stone.
Imagine Dragons and American Authors are both really similar in music style. If you like one, I would encourage you to check out the other.
